Holy Angels: Children’s Campus Expansion

For more than 65 years, Holy Angels has been a trusted leader in compassionate, comprehensive care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Based in Belmont, Holy Angels supports children and adults with complex medical needs through a holistic approach that nurtures physical, social, spiritual, educational, vocational, and emotional growth.

To meet growing demand and deepen its impact, Holy Angels is expanding its campus by 4.5 additional acres adjacent to its current site. Guided by a visionary master plan created in partnership with the Boomerang Design team, the Children’s Campus Expansion introduces innovative facilities and elevated services. This strategic investment opens new doors for residents, families, staff, and the wider Belmont community.

Together, these enhancements empower Holy Angels to reach more individuals, deliver more advanced therapies and accommodations, and broaden community outreach—further advancing its mission to transform lives.

A Phased Roadmap for Transformative Care

Phase 1 – Children’s Homes + Community Heart
Phase 1 introduces three state-of-the-art, six-bed homes specifically designed for children with complex medical needs. Each residence integrates advanced medical technology, adaptive layouts, and fully accessible features. Serving a total of 18 children, these homes provide a nurturing, family-like environment that feels warm, safe, and supportive. The homes include a living room with a home-like kitchen and a large serving island, screened porches, and specially designed rooms that promote either calming or stimulating experiences.

The new 11,500 square-foot community center on the Holy Angels Treescape Campus serves as a vibrant social and spiritual hub. It features flexible multipurpose spaces designed for worship, recreation, and year-round programming. The center also includes private visiting rooms and comfortable offices to enhance accessibility and comfort. Surrounding the center is a multi-sensory courtyard and prayer garden, which extend the indoor space outdoors, offering carefully curated sensory experiences that promote calmness, engagement, and well-being. Additional amenities include an indoor therapy pool, a patio with an outdoor fireplace, and a water feature, all of which contribute to opportunities for social interaction and personal growth. A new commercial kitchen efficiently serves the entire campus, streamlining meal preparation and staff workflows while enhancing the overall experience for each child.

Phase 2 – Learning, Inclusion, + Support
Phase 2 introduces a one-and-a-half-story, 13,000-square-foot learning center designed to meet residents’ educational needs. Initially proposed as a daycare in the master plan, this building’s focus has now shifted to K-12 education. It features purpose-built special education classrooms, interactive learning spaces, and a conference room that supports a variety of teaching and therapeutic strategies. The “Maker Space” is a multifunctional room dedicated to art, music, and memory-making. This space is filled with natural light and includes glass roll-up doors that extend the activity area to an accessible patio for outdoor learning. Additionally, the Learning Center includes a workshop area for the facilities department, enabling repair and maintenance of specialized equipment essential to residents’ daily care and mobility.

Across both phases, enhanced maintenance and support facilities centralize storage, vehicle housing, and equipment repair, thereby improving the reliability and efficiency of daily operations in a quiet yet critical manner.

The Holy Angels Children’s Campus Expansion reimagines a 4.5-acre site as a fully integrated environment for children with complex medical needs—blending small-scale residential homes, therapy and wellness spaces, and a new community hub into a cohesive campus. Delivered through a phased master plan, the project expands Holy Angels’ capacity to provide advanced, compassionate care while strengthening K-12 education, family support, and community connection.
